The Zero to Dapp ICP Hackathon, powered by Encode, wrapped up its exhilarating journey yesterday. Spanning four weeks, participants dove deep into the Internet Computer Protocol, pushing the boundaries of blockchain technology. The event kicked off with an inspiring launch event, laying the groundwork for a month filled with innovation, coding, and groundbreaking development.

Our esteemed partners Juno, ToniqLabs and Nostric played a pivotal role in enriching the hackathon experience. They provided invaluable technical workshops and offered exclusive bounties, fostering a nurturing environment for all participants. The hackathon culminated in a grand finale event, showcasing the incredible projects developed by participants, and highlighting the versatility and power of the ICP ecosystem.

How it Worked

Our hackathon participants had four weeks to build their projects and submit them for judging. During this time, they also had the opportunity to participate in several workshops related to the ICP ecosystem:

Winners

Track 1: Awesome ICP

🥇 1st place —Secret Recovery (25k Developer Grant)

A new protocol enables wallet providers, individuals, and companies to link their wallet’s secret phrases with an email, using ICP smart contracts. It employs DKIM signature verification, Chain Key cryptography, and Vet Keys for trustless operations. Integrated with a frontend dApp, users can register and verify emails for secret phrase recovery.

🥈 2nd place — Pieglaut (5k Developer Grant)

This decentralized protocol provides end-to-end encryption for email and file sharing, setting a new benchmark in privacy and trust for digital communications.

🎖 Best Use of Juno — Paste.digital ($1,000 in ICP)

A Paste.digital is a secure decentralized code snippet and messages sharing platform. It is hosted on Juno meaning that no one owns the information and hence no one can block it. It provides a fun and user-friendly interface. NFID allows people who don’t have a crypto wallet to be able to communicate with the system.

🎖 Newbie Bounty — Cipher Box ($1,000 in ICP)

The project is a Decentralized Password & TOTP Manager built on the ICP, leveraging VETKeys for encryption and decryption of passwords and TOTP keys directly in the browser. It securely stores encrypted data, enabling access across devices without reliance on centralized services. Additionally, the app generates TOTP codes and random passwords.

Track 2: ICP x BTC

🥇 1st place — icp-chainvault (25k Developer Grant)

ChainVault is a DeFi protocol on the ICP platform, enabling Bitcoin holders to instantly unlock liquidity without sacrificing security. By integrating with the Bitcoin network, it allows users to deposit Bitcoin or ckBTC as collateral to mint stablecoins, specifically SynthUSD. This process is powered by ICP’s smart contracts, ensuring transactions are secure, transparent, and efficient. ChainVault’s architecture includes Oracle Canisters for real-time price data, a Deposit Module for asset deposits, and a Vault Manager for managing loans and collateral. It addresses the challenges of traditional liquidity methods by offering a decentralized, user-friendly solution. ChainVault exemplifies the potential of cross-chain functionality in DeFi, providing a scalable, reliable platform for financial innovation.

🥈 2nd place — The Godwin protocol (5k Developer Grant)

A decentralized voting system fueled with Bitcoin. Voters have to lock bitcoins to vote. The more votes participate, the longer your bitcoins are locked. You can also get rewards by finding the vote result before everybody else.

Track 3: ICP x ETH

🥇 1st place — Event Hub (25k Developer Grant)

Event Hub is a dedicated node within the ICP ecosystem designed for efficiently managing and broadcasting events to various stakeholders. This canister offers functionalities for event subscription, unsubscription, log management, and event distribution to subscribers. It enhances interoperability by supporting Ethereum RPC methods and features flexible event types and custom filters for precise event handling.

🥈 2nd place — ICP Gitcoin Passport (5k Developer Grant)

The creator developed an example application and its associated library designed to securely fetch the Gitcoin Passport score for a logged-in Ethereum wallet user from the backend. While the example app solely displays the score, a practical implementation would involve storing the Passport score in Internet Computer Protocol storage, ensuring the availability of the score for a user associated with a specific wallet.
